The roof is one of those things we all tend to take for granted, but it is a good idea to give it a quick inspection, inside and out, about two times a year to see whether you might need repairs made. When you’re inside your house, grab a flashlight and go to your highest level – the attic if you have one – and check for signs of water damage or leaks. Telltale signs include dark spots or outside light shining through. Also keep your eyes open for any signs of sagging. On the outside of your home, look to see if there are any shingles missing or areas where the roof materials seem to be torn, cracked or curling. If your roof seems dirty you may have algae growing on it, and that can rob your roof of its expected lifespan. Also check the condition of your gutters and downspouts.
